Hello and welcome back to this weeks instalment of the NFL Weekly Roundup. There is plenty to catch you all up on so let me begin. I have to start with the blockbuster trade that has just taken place moments ago between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tennessee Titans, which saw DeAndre Hopkins move to the reining two-time Superbowl champion Chiefs for a conditional fifth-round pick. The rich get richer. With second year receiver Rashee Rice going down for the season against the Chargers earlier in the season and free-agent pickup Marquise 'Hollywood' Brown not expected to return until the playoffs, the chiefs did need to get some help for Patrick Mahomes, as an aging Travis Kelce and rookie Xavier Worthy is clearly not going to cut the mustard in the playoffs, especially with Baltimore loading up this season. Although I think this is an excellent move for both parties, I am a little bit salty that the Chiefs front office are so proactive, whilst I'm sat watching bleak Zac Taylor football, who is currently wasting the prime of his star players. Just slightly salty!!!
Lets get back to the games at the weekend. I'm going to start in Pittsburgh, as the Steelers took on the New York Jets. The hope was growing at Metlife after the Jets acquired all-pro wideout Davante Adams, however, it was a debut to forget for the former Raider and Adams a relatively quiet game, only posting 3 catches for 30 yards. The Jets looked in control early in the game when Breece Hall looked unstoppable, but there's just something about that Steeler defence. It was a pick party at Heinz Field as Rodgers was intercepted twice, thanks to some horrible play from Garett Wilson. A-Rod has not settled into life in New York at all this season, constantly adding credibility to the narrative that he is not a good leader in the dressing room. Prime example of this is when he threw Mike Williams under the bus outing him for running the wrong route. Williams may well have done that, but as the 4-time MVP, Superbowl Champ and most importantly the leader of the team, you've got to take the blame there. Have words after the game, but the last thing you should do is out a teammate publicly. It just showed the lack of unity the Jets have. I think that trading for Rodgers has set this Jets team back years, especially when there were consecutive years with strong QB classes. For Rodgers legacy, I hope he turns it around, but don't think that's happening any time soon.
The Lions are legit. After fighting off a comeback from the 5-0 Vikings, I think they are my pick to win it all this year. The contrast between the unity of that team in the Motor City and that one I just talked about is night and day. After losing their best player Aidan Hutchinson for the season last week, to rally like that against an unbeaten division rival is so impressive. I'll admit, it was by no means a flawless game, but in my opinion, a win like that is almost better. The way that Goff drove down the field with the game on the line and delivered in the clutch just optimises the culture that Dan Campbell has built in Detroit. I think they have what it takes to win it, even without Hutchinson. I think if Brad Holmes can pull off a trade for some depth at edge rusher, then there is no reason they should lift the Lombardi in New Orleans.
